Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to the most common questions about who we are, what we do and how to get involved.
About the Organisation
A Community Based Organisation (CBO) is a legally registered non-profit organisation led by and accountable to community members to address specific local needs. CBOs operate at the grassroots level and are recognised under Kenyan law. Unlike NGOs, CBOs must have the majority of their membership drawn from the community they serve.
We were founded in 2009 by a small group of community elders, women leaders and youth advocates who came together after post-election violence. The organisation was formally registered in 2011. We have been serving communities continuously since our founding.
We are a fully registered Community Based Organisation. Our Certificate Number is DSD/37/207/2/94444 and our Registration Number is DSD/37/207/2/94444. These can be verified with the relevant government registration authority.
We currently operate in 47 communities, primarily in Nairobi County and surrounding areas. We are actively expanding to other counties. If you would like to request that we bring our programmes to your area, please contact us.

Financial & Accountability
We are funded through a combination of institutional grants from development partners, corporate CSR contributions, community contributions and government support. We do not receive funding from any political party or government that compromises our independence.
We maintain a rigorous monitoring and evaluation framework, commission independent annual financial audits and hold quarterly community accountability forums where beneficiaries can hold us accountable publicly.
